FYI both these games are a port of the game Activision made for computer systems (most obvious being the Commodore 64 and the Atari 8-bit). Having played both of them, the SMS game is a pretty accurate port, whereas the NES version seems to have had the developer take great licenses and re-code many portions of the game.

Also, you mention the "walking up the stairs" through the tower of Zuul. I was unaware that the SMS version had that sequence, because the original computer version sure doesn't. I remember it being especially painful on the NES where you could only take 3 hits (or 6 with a ghost suit)... and your ghostbusters moved like the elderly. :)

I think the problem with this game is that it tried to be too many things. Which is it going to be? A business sim? An action game? A driving game?

All it ends up being is very unplayable.

Jorge: I know, that game (part 2) is even worse.

Adam: I don't think we ever made it up the stairs. I've only made it to Gozer a handful of times, and each time it was just absolute madness. I die at that stage within seconds.

I'm going to have to give the game another go tonight to see if I can finish it. Surely I'm a much better game player now than I was then.

Oh, and yes, the new game is something I'm really looking forward to. The Wii version's going for a more "animated series" look along the lines of Team Fortress 2, plus it may use the pointer controls for aiming, which would be cool.

Did we ever successfully make it up the stairs, Shaun? I know we've played these ones together before, but I don't think I've personally ever seen Gozer and the top of that building.

Considering most of my dreaming (both daytime and nighttime) in the 80s surrounded Ghostbusters, I would LOVE for the new game to succeed.

Oh my God. I hated all Ghostbusters games. None more than Ghostbusters II, I have to say.

That whole rappelling down the side of a building level?

PISS!
