Spore Finally Gets Release Date

Spore: Coming to your galaxy this Fall.
EA has just announced that Spore will be available September 7, 2008 on PC, Mac, Nintendo DS, and mobile phones.
“The wait is almost over,” says Maxis Chief Designer Will Wright. “We’re in our final stages of testing and polish with Spore, and the team at Maxis can’t wait to see the cosmos of content created by the community later this year.”
Spore is the brainchild of Wright, who is also the man behind The Sims. The game is ambitious to say the least. Players will get to essentially play god as they watch and control the development of their own species, tribes, societies, and universe. In fact, it promises to be a game that will undoubtedly take up all of your time should you choose to play it.
The game’s official website, spore.com, has been updated with new screenshots as well as a teaser announcement for the release date.

Am I the only one not interested about this title?
I’m interested in it slightly – just to see if it will live up to hype/expectations. The game sure is promising a lot.
I’m just waiting to see how long it takes people to figure out how to have virtual sex in the game.
THANKS WILL WRIGHT!
Spore hype was off the charts. Many of our friends, almost 3 yrs ago, were saying “Best Game Evar”, many of them not really big ‘gamers’. I was shocked, as it looked interesting, but not *that* interesting.
I couldn’t figure out all the many delays (supposedly it’s been “done” for quite some time) until I heard about “Sporepedia”. Basically the game comes with an entire backend full of community/social network (Youtube, facebook etc), to handle sharing the user created content. If the game is near as popular as it seems it might be, they backend will have to be considerably robust AND easy to use. It’s probably been more work design that, then the actual game itself.
I am optomistic, worst case: it should be an entertaining little title to play around with. Best case: it becomes the game that everyone is addicted to, including your parents!
