For the Kid in All of Us
By Syd Bolton - May 10th, 2008I have to admit it. I’m 36 years old and I like to play platform games. You know the type I’m talking about - the ones that have evolved from straight platforming to adventuring. Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Tak, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and I even played through Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer. Of course, I love Crash Bandicoot and although Crash of the Titans wasn’t my favourite title in the series, I’m still excited to hear a new one is on the way.
Crash: Mind Over Mutant is already looking better to me than the last outing. The little orange guy will never be like he was when the Naughty Dogs were in control but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve a little of your love. I’m cautiously optimistic about the new Ratchet spinoff, Secret Agent Clank coming out on the PSP in June. It’s nice that I’ll be able to play it on the big screen with the new PSP “lite” because the Ratchet universe is best viewed in high definition in my opinion.
The thing about these games is that many people consider them to be kids games. If you’re one of these people and have avoided the “mascot” type games all your life, reconsider giving them a shot. There is a lot more complicated and rewarding gameplay beneath the cute graphics than you can possibly imagine. Besides, then your friends will have something on you to make fun of. Mine sure do.
