Bungie keeps achievements up their sleeves
By David Wylie - September 24th, 2008The developer behind the massively successful Halo series has always been good at wooing gamers into their fold and keeping them there. And that hasn’t changed with Halo 3.
To ensure its title stays at the top of Xbox Live’s most played list, Bungie released Title Update 2 Tuesday for Halo 3. The update adds 10 new achievements for a total of 250 points. All can be earned through online multiplayer.
However, leave it to Bungie to keep secrets.
Three of the 10 achievements are dubbed “Vidmaster challenges” and are worth zero points. However, Bungie said there’s a “pot of gold” waiting for those who earn the Vidmaster achievements.
“These three will not earn you any gamer points but there will (eventually) be a pay-off,” said Bungie on its website. “We’re not going to spoil the fun just yet but suffice it to say that gamerscore isn’t everything. There is a pot of gold at the end of the Vidmaster rainbow and it is something you will want. More details later.”
Also, Xbox Live’s website revealed there were even more achievements coming for Halo 3, to the tune of another 500 points. While Bungie acknowledged these extra achievements, which include finding new hidden skulls, the developer was short on details, saying: “All will become clear in due time.” Bungie added they’re just finalizing plans with the publisher.
Cryptic posts on their website though point to a new plot being revealed, which could mean extra campaign maps? An expansion pack perchance? Check it out.
Bungie always seems to have another rabbit in their hat.
