Naruto: The Broken Bond
In Stores Tomorrow

Naruto: The Broken Bond

It should come as no surprise to our readers that Toronto Thumbs is home to, among many things, a bunch of crazed and obsessed Naruto fans. Jorge has recently completed Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 for Wii and will soon be getting his hands on Naruto: Path of the Ninja 2 for Nintendo DS while I will tackle Naruto: The Broken Bond for Xbox 360, which is in stores tomorrow.

Although the first Naruto outing on the Xbox received some critical bashing from cool dude video game bloggers, I quite enjoyed it because it followed the story of the anime so well and made it feel like I was playing a cartoon (but in a different way from Dragon’s Lair, which I actually do not enjoy). Bonus points to the developers for later including the Japanese language track as FREE DLC. I understand The Broken Bond includes the Japanese audio option right out of the box, which means I’ll be reading a lot of subtitles this week.

Dattebayo!

You don’t like Dragon’s Lair? I don’t know that I’ve ever heard that before. Plenty of folks haven’t tried it, or have never heard of it, of course, but I don’t know of anyone who’s played it and didn’t like it.

Useless trivia for the day: I worked (for I think a few days) on the production side of the game company that ported Dragon’s Lair over to the Amiga. Sadly, I didn’t have the app that would let the (brutally low-res) frames I coloured run together as a clip, so I was basically colouring in blocky elements frame by frame without the ability to see them in action. Turns out they were bad enough when run together to get me quickly removed from doing any more work on it. I guess the guys who were in charge thought I was worthy enough for something, though, so I got a free copy of the game out of it, which I think consisted of six or eight 3.5″ floppies.

Ah, misty water-coloured (or vibrant, blocky, coloured) memories…

  3. I’m actually one of those people that is meh about Dragon’s Lair. I’ve played it and liked it well enough, it just didn’t resonate with me (and neither did Space Ace for that matter.

Naruto, though, is another kettle of fish.

I actually started playing the first Clash of Ninja game before I started watching the anime. I found the game so good that I was hooked on the characters before I watched the series premiere.

On top of it all, it’s a damned good series. My all-time favourite anime, I would say.
