NINTENDO’S LOGO
It’s not red anymore

Red is a vibrant colour. Gray, not so much. Red is the colour of blood, of passion, of life. Gray, not so much. Red is the colour Nintendo’s logo used to be. Now, it is gray. While it still looks the same, minus a whole lot of yellow and magenta on the print colour wheel, I will always think of the red logo when thinking of Nintendo. Is the move from vibrate red to dull gray just a stylistic one, or do you think there’s a certain amount of symbolism regarding the company’s current direction of resting on its laurels and not actually trying anything new?
And remember when Optimus Prime died in the only Transformers movie that’s worth a damn? He turned from bright red to gray upon death!
Whatever your thoughts may be on this matter, I’m glad the “racetrack” logo is intact save for this palette swap. And I’ll still continue to be a fan of the big N, hoping for more ambitious and groundbreaking times for the company.

I can almost guarantee this is one of those “Make the label blend in so our products can shine through a name” situations. But I liked that it was red, it really was a recognizable symbol.
But looking at Wii packaging boxes the Nintendo name blends in with the whites and grays of the chosen lay out. If the Logo remained red it would stand out in the corner. But at the same time, I’ll still miss seeing it as red. And then I find it interesting that it actually makes a difference to me what colour the logo is. Human beings really do hate change
Actually looking at the box now the use of blue is also clever. They are advertising for the game in blue but also showing where the game is inserted making the connection that Wii Sports is a game and also how to work the machine.
I think it’s awesome.
It reminds me of the Wii packaging where there is no Nintendo logo at all (save on “Wii Sports”).
I think it’s a great move. It’s less “kiddy” and more “ninja”.
