FLASH FOCUS
The Patapon 2 Mini-Game

By Jamie Love - March 10th, 2009

Patapon Mini Game

If you’ve not yet had the chance to play Patapon, it might be hard to understand why waiting until May 5th for the North American release of Patapon 2 has me all knotted up inside. But SPIL Games is giving a chance for both players suffering through the painful wait, and those that have never been hypnotized by the repetitious rhythm and style of the series to bang out a few “Pata’s” all the same.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that from March 9th until March 16th, PC and Mac gamers alike can sample the Kerb-developed flash version of Patapon. The result is as near perfect as possible - considering that the keyboard is a poor substitute for clutching my PSP. Players can get a quick taste of what’s coming and unlock designs for creating their own Patapon wallpaper - meaning you should click on through right away!

Me? I’ll just be sitting here, waiting for May 5th, unless of course I happen to get it sooner.

EBgames has also offered a demo with pre-orders of Patapon 2 that will apparently be available from March 13th until April 27th. Same game perhaps? Good question! What say you Sony?

@Alex - There’s something about the PSP, despite what people say about the lack of games. Every time I turn on a game like Patapon the screen comes to life with the most amazing color palette right there in my hands and puts a ridiculously huge smile on my face. Quality versus quantity? Absolutely!

I honestly dont know what people complain about either, to me there seems to be a slew of wicked titles I know I’d like to try for the PSP… I just decided to buy a DS instead, more so because the DS was cheaper and the hot new item, and it also hasn’t let me down.

@Alex I bought my PSP on the day Patapon came out just to play it. Crazy that a budget title sold me a system. But also amazing I love it and I’m super excited for Patapon 2. I also have both a PSP and a DS and don’t regret having both.

And I went and played the online version and it makes me happy to do be able to do something while I’m waiting for the sequel, so happy, it’s actually holds up really well.

Shaun showed me the online demo version of v.1 of this game and I thought it was great! Any idea if they’d make a Wii version for one-platform people like me?

It’ll happen one day soon, I’ll just say the hell with it and go buy one… Fingers crossed on nabbing a Kratos edition PSP

@libby - Afraid I can’t get your hopes up on that one. Patapon is a Sony owned IP and its mission is to sell PSPs - hence not even a PS2 port (which likely would have done well.)

  9. I’m just going to wait until I have enough airmiles to get a PSP.
