Nintendo Fans Are A Loyal Bunch

The irony of this photo is not lost on me.
This past weekend, Nintendo held a midnight launch event for the DSi at the Future Shop at Yonge-Dundas. Pictured above is the RE SHOP, however, where I guess the event actually took place. Had I not been sitting in the mailroom all week, I would have caught the press release discussing the successful* event, but Paul Hunter over at NextGenPlayer has my back (in that he can’t prevent me from linking to his article) and has posted a write-up featuring his take on things.
Here’s my take: Some gamers have complained about the price of the DSi here in Canada – but if you do the math, $199.99 CDN is still less than the US retail price of $169.99. Actually, don’t take my word on that. I almost failed math twice (or was it three times?). In any case, if you didn’t already suspect Nintendo of having balls of steel, the fact that they’ve launched a device during a recession is proof of this. It’s like they’re the Apple of videogames. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how well the DSi does in today’s market.
*Torontoist reported a so-so turnout.
