SingStar Queen Coming August 18

Today Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the upcoming SingStar Queen for PlayStation 2 and PS3, which will be made available as a standalone disc August 18.
The PS3 version looks to be the one to get, as it will include 25 songs compared to the PS2 version’s 20. And if you think Queen only had about three good songs: you’re dead fucking wrong. While the band’s level of musicianship and experimentation with sound was nothing short of amazing (even today but especially for its time), there’s no denying that Freddie Mercury’s outstanding vocal range is what made Queen.
Therefore it’s incredibly exciting that this game will celebrate his voice by having players try their best to match it note for note – and good luck on that. Unlike another upcoming game also based on a band with a dead frontman, SingStar Queen does not appear to come across as a gimmicky cash grab from its publisher nor the surviving members of the band hiding under the guise of a tacky product. So kudos. I can’t possibly put into words how excited I am about SingStar Queen other than to say that I sing along to my Queen albums at the top of my lungs already anyway.
The rest of Sony’s press release read like a wiki entry on Queen’s discography – you know, for the kids today who know nothing but High School Musical and Hannah Montana. But you know what? This game isn’t for them.
One last thing: Here’s a fun video of Electric Six’s cover of Queen’s Radio Ga Ga.

I love that version of Radio Ga Ga.
And if I didn’t have a passionate hate-on for Singstar because of the people who live in the apartment below me… This would be a version of the game I would really want to play.
It’s unfortunate that your downstairs neighbours are annoying like that. Reminds me of the time I got a noise complaint about playing Rock Band, and then weeks later the neighbours that complained got it and played it way louder.
Oh man that’s awful!
The peeps downstairs, they’re just really not very good singers and they have about 4 different versions of singstar so from 7pm to 3am I get to listen to them play. And the playstation3 restarting every time they want to play a specific song on another disc. Brutal.
dude I just picked up SS Legends and Rocks on Source Clearance. I think PopV2 and Queen are the only ones I’m missing. (minus Country -ugh) I was worried for a moment that it wouldn’t make it over here. Now i can breathe a sigh of relief.
