Two PlayStations and a Microphone
By Shaun Hatton - May 9th, 2009![]()
With the news of the revelation of the DJ Hero and Scratch the Ultimate DJ peripherals, I was reminded of my own videogame DJ exploits. No, I haven’t played previous DJ games. I’ve actually used videogame equipment to DJ some shows in Toronto under the name DJ FINISH HIM.
In 2006 I volunteered to spin tunes between bands at a videogame tribute night. At the time I had a fairly extensive collection of videogame soundtracks and figured it would fit with the theme of the night. In the weeks leading up to it, I decided I would dress up as Scorpion from Mortal Kombat and with the help of my friend Kat, decided on the stage name.

It wasn’t until a week before the big show that the idea struck me to use PlayStations as turntables. I tested things out in my apartment beforehand, and when that test was successful I had Mortal Kombat stickers printed up for the disc covers of the PlayStations. Since I had one red controller and one blue one, the two sticker colours are also red and blue.
I haven’t DJed a show in years, but I have been making original compositions using various gaming sounds and samples under the name DJ FINISH HIM – check out my Tumblog for more info and to check out the tunes.

And it was the first time I met you! And yet we never knew!
How strange life is.
i was planning on laughing at you but I thought about it and DJ Finish him isn’t the lamest stage name you could have gone with. it was pretty borderline for a second but whew you ended up on the ok side of the fence.
@Wolfkin – never laugh at a dude who has a ninja outfit, however silly that outfit may look.
@Mathew – I know! Small world/city
Thats gnarly Shaun, sweet setup, sweet get-up… I’d love to sport some sort of MGS costume most likely snake or even hitman’s agent 47, oh and then terrorize old people and the like!
Thanks, Alex! A Snake costume would be pretty sweet. I’ve seen some good ones at various events.
don’t get me wrong the setup is pretty boss, and the outfit was never questionable. my only criticism /was/ going to be the name.
No worries, dude!
I actually like the name “DJ FINISH HIM” like it just sounds right!
Thanks, Alex!
I’m trying to put together another excuse to put on a show. I’ll post news of this when I have it.
