Chinatown Wars Coming To PSP

DS Exclusivity, we hardly knew thee! Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be releasing for the PSP as both a retail UMD and digital download this fall. Using terms like “specifically built for,” the PSP release will feature upscaled widescreen graphics, enhances to animation and lighting as well as new story missions. Certainly good news for fans, and the title definitely deserves a second chance at retail after some disappointing results on the DS.

I am *very* interested to see how this one does. Not because I really care much about exclusivity one way or another, but it’ll be a great litmus test on the whole “PSP owners don’t buy games, they pirate them” issue.
Why go to PSP? Chinatown’s performance on the DS has been somewhat disappointing, so it only makes sense to go multiplattform. PSP owners are traditionally considered more in the “GTA” Demographic, so it may have more success there.
But reviews on the game were mixed, some play poor sales due to the DS audience, others say because it just wasn’t that compelling of a game. If the latter is true, the piracy or not, it still might not sell on the PSP.
So i’m curious to see what kinda #’s it does, if they are big then maybe PSP piracy is overblown. If they aren’t, well, that result is inconclusive
Reviews were mixed? Metacritic/Gamerankings have it as the highest rated game for the DS. I’m sure there were a few bad reviews out there, but it seems as though the general consensus was that Chinatown Wars was pretty great.
Reviews are always mixed for every game – it’s a stretch but there will always be people who disagree with popular opinion.
But yeah I’ve only ever seen good reviews of this game.
Adam, you owe me one negative review for Chinatown Wars. Because I’ve honestly never come across one.
But keep in mind I’ll know if you wrote it.
As a DS fan I guess I’m a little disappointed in this. I thought the whole point of CTW was that it was designed from the ground up for the DS. That would seem to me to inhibit cross platformation seeing as how unique the DS is. I could see maybe an iPhone port as annoying as that would be.
If the DS didn’t already have a huge library of great games I might be downright angry. You’ll see what I mean if this ever happens on the Wii.
Im right there with you Wolfkin… it was made for the DS and with it being rebuilt chances are it will look more like LCS or VCS. Personally I love the look of CTW it brings back found memories of the original GTA
