Star Wars: In Concert will be making a tour stop in Toronto on Thursday, November 26, 2009. The massive touring orchestra has a stage setup to be reckoned with, including a giant high definition LED screen, what appear to be lasers (!), an exhibit featuring props and costumes from the series, and none other than Anthony Daniels (C-3PO!) hosting the whole event.
The concert is set to go down at the Air Canada Centre, which is a bit of a strange place to see and hear an orchestra, but I guess there really are that many obsessed Star Wars fans in and around the big city. If you’re interested in attending, you can get tickets from TicketMaster’s site.
Here’s hoping the sound is decent, as I’ll be there trying to take it all in.

I attended the “Star Wars” in concert tonight and was tremendously disappointed.I expected that the orchestra would be playing live. After 5 seconds I realized that it was all pre-recorded, and poorly as well. Not only was the ambience of the ACC (reverb) completely incorrect but there were zero dynamics in the playing of the pieces. The only thing that saddens me more is that 100 talented musicians would agree to fake along. If you read the ticket carefully it says nothing about hearing the symphony play, “Star Wars In Concert”…..interpret it as you may. Completely pre-recorded, even a handful of uneducated live audio listeners knew something was not right instantly.
If you are a hardcore Star Wars fan , I don’t discourage you to go, but if you are expecting to hear a live performance from the symphony, you’ll be very disappointed as I was.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the event. I didn’t end up attending as I had looked up the set list of pieces they were going to play and was unenthusiastic about the large number of prequel pieces listed. So I gave my tickets away.
For one, I am a huge fan of the original movies and that includes the music from it.
That’s too bad it was pre-recorded. I was wondering how the ACC would do for an orchestra and it looks like I’ve got an answer.
If this was an event at Roy Thompson Hall, and if there was more original trilogy work played, I would definitely have attended.
I too was really disappointed. Like all things Star Wars since the original series it was a huge let down. The show was choppy and uncreative. It seemed as an amatuer was in charge. It lacked any imagination and really missed being an epic story telling experience. Way too much Anthony Daniels, not enough “big sound” or lights or anything that would have made you stand up and cheer. I couldn’t wait for it to be over, and my wife even said it seemed like a cheap money grab. Honestly I could have done the movies more justice if I had been in charge. A HUGE LET DOWN
