Full disclosure: Much as I might like to some days, I don’t secretly work for Capcom. That said, and at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I absolutely adore a lot of the publisher’s work. Take for instance their approach to marketing Dark Void, the upcoming science fiction action title for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms.
In what can most succinctly be called absolute genius, Capcom is releasing an 8-bit adventure called Dark Void Zero, based in the same universe, as DSiWare this January for 500 Nintendo Points. Dark Void, on the other hand, will probably cost a lot more than five bucks when it drops for the three powerhouse platforms in February.
Capcom’s also come up with a goofy bit of history regarding this 8-bit title, explaining how development on the game was shelved in the late 80s and was eventually lost during a “best left un-discussed” magnet incident. In the meantime, however, they’ve commissioned a recreation of the original title. In it, players take on the role of Rusty, the first human born in the Void.
Here’s hoping Dark Void Zero will also include and tasty catchy chiptunes as well.
