Ubisoft’s Q3 Shaky,
Company Looks to New Games For Boost

Ubisoft’s Underperforms In Q3, Looks To New Games For Boost

Earlier today, Ubisoft released a press release addressing the company’s third fiscal quarter results as well as plans for future releases. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction is being pushed back again, this time to April, while a new Assassin’s Creed title will surprisingly be released this year. R.U.S.E, which was supposed to be released last year, now has a tentative release date of November 2010.

Ubisoft also reported lower-than-expected sales numbers for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Game (not at all surprising) as well as less-than-desired sales numbers for non-casual Wii titles. Overall, the company reported expecting an operating loss for the year, which may result in some abandoned projects. However they’re looking to improve on their financial situation with upcoming titles such as the aforementioned games, a new game in the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Driver, as well as a Raving Rabbids 4.

Hopefully things will pick up for the software giant, given the Ontario government’s investment in the company opening up a Toronto studio to boost the interactive job sector in the province.

Well, at least these constant delays mean Conviction will be good, right?

    …right?

The demonstration I was shown in September was already quite impressive. Here’s hoping the final product will be as excellent as people are expecting it to be (though, really, when does that happen?).

I know that companies really like working on Movie Adaptations for videogames, but come on, there have not been that many good ones. How can they be expecting to have stellar sales with an Avatar game?

Also, is “Rabbids Go Home” not considered to be RR4?

I am incredibly optimistic about Ubisoft Toronto. I’m excited just to know there’s a big-name developer in Toronto (aside from the many indie companies)

  5. When I first heard this I couldn’t believe it. Ubisoft, to me, seems like such a great company, especially considering their expansion (BC, Ontario).

The quality of games they produce is stellar and I don’t think I’ve played a Ubisoft title that I don’t like.

I’m pretty sure that they will wow us this year, though.

AC2 is incredible, and Conviction looks amazing enough for me to want to buy an XBox360.

Well, Avatar was an average game at best. As for the rest of their releases, had they finished Red Steel 2 in time I would have bought that. As it is, my purchase from Ubisoft was Rabbids Go Home which is a veeeery fun and well polished game.

Maybe MORE good games on Wii (instead of aaaaaall the “casual” ones they’re releasing) would translate into more sales on the console? Let’s see how well Red Steel 2 does. I see at least 1 million copies worldwide easily.
