THE FUTURE IS WOW
Sony’s Motion Controller Coming This Fall

By Shaun Hatton - January 20th, 2010

Not to be outdone by Microsoft announcing that Project Natal will be available this year, Sony has gone ahead and confirmed that their own motion controller will also be available this year. Take that, Xbox fanboys!

In a press release issued today, Sony Computer Entertainment said that its Motion Controller (name tentative) will launch with an extensive line-up of (tentatively) exciting software titles. The whole thing will somehow work in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, so if you’ve been sitting on the fence about one of those you’d better run out and buy 20 before the hoarders and resellers catch wind of this.

Also not to be outdone by bloggers’ phallus jokes, SCE accompanied the announcement with a promise to “vigorously promote” the device as being the “de facto” controller of the PS3. This of course leads me to believe that no one actually knows what “de facto” means, which in turn makes me realize that I shouldn’t feel too badly about not knowing what it means, either.

Interestingly, both Sony’s and Microsoft’s motion controllers are coming to the market a full four years after the Wii. Seeing as how the free market has already chosen the Wii as its favourite current-gen system, it’ll be interesting to see if either of the HD consoles can claim a significant piece of the flailing gamer pie before this generation of consoles is put down. (Speaking of, if you’re into ice cream, check out Breyer’s Banana Creme Pie flavour – it is simply delightful).

In fact, this whole thing is so interesting that I decided it’s best to not include a photo of Sony’s Motion Controller because I didn’t want to harm anyone’s delicate mind with how awesome and overwhelming it all can be. You’re welcome.

  2. I am very stoked about this.
I’d love to tell people that I love to play with my wand, and that I have an extra, should they feel the need to come over and play with me.

    …Wait…

How’s that any different from the way game nights are now?

I was going to buy RE5 Gold due to the new control option so it plays as good (hopefully) as RE4: Wii Edition, but now I guess I’ll wait until the fall. I’ll probably get it at a discount even…
