You Just Got Sarge’d Again!
Red vs. Blue: The Recollection

By Jorge Figueiredo - October 3rd, 2010

After having watched the first DVD set, it was inevitable that I would watch the second; I enjoyed the first five seasons so much that I was really looking forward to the last three; they did not disappoint.

Red Vs. Blue: The Recollection is a three-disc set that, for starters, contains seasons 6 (Reconstruction), 7 (Recreation), and 8 (Revelation); it also contains two miniseries’ (Recovery One and Relocated). This amounts to over five hours of episodes, which is enough to satisfy the die-hardiest of die-hard RVB fans. But wait; there’s more! On top of the actual series, there are tons of extra features: deleted scenes, outtakes, PSAs and special videos as well as a number of interviews!

The DVDs pick up where the Blood Gulch Chronicles left off; as the Reds and the Blues are trying to figure things out, they start forming an unlikely and uneasy alliance: a new, mysterious foe known as “the Meta” is running around stealing AIs from all of the Freelancers. Our heroes (or antiheroes) have to deal with new bases, new conflicts, and new one-liners from the loveable Caboose.

The last three seasons balance offbeat humour and a compelling story, leaving the viewer with a positive experience. I really enjoyed the direction that the series took – I felt very invested in the main characters at the end (which was very cool). I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoyed the first five seasons; even if you have never seen them, you will probably enjoy these last three if you have a sense of humour that leans towards the nerdy. Even my wife (who is decidedly not geeky) was chuckling at a good number of lines spoken in the shows, particularly those spouted by Lopez and Caboose.

At sub $40, this is a fantastic way to round out your RVB collection!

They also offered a bonus disc o their site that includes two machinima mini-series about a team in “Grifball” a Halo gametype they made up, named after a quick joke from Season 4.
