SteelSeries World of Warcraft®: Cataclysm™ MMO Gaming Mouse

I swear that this looks like something you can climb inside to fly to Jupiter.

I have spent quite a bit of time over the past few years in World of Warcraft so it only makes sense that I was chosen to check out SteelSeries’ newest mouse, the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Mouse. I was extremely anxious to try it especially since I had purchased Cataclysm and wanted to see what having fourteen buttons in my hand would be like. Unless you purchased this mouse in person, you may be a bit surprised by the sheer size of the thing – it’s absolutely massive.

This mouse is much, much bigger than any I have ever owned before and it felt very awkward in my hand. Keep in mind that I am female and I have very petite hands, but I would suspect that a man with average sized hands would find the Cataclysm mouse to be on the large and uncomfortable side. You can custom map any of the buttons on the mouse to suit your needs in game very easily, though because of the awkward placing of some of the buttons I only mapped five or six out of the fourteen available. It is also very easy to tie your favourite macros to whatever buttons suit your fancy.

If you are driving, please stay three chevrons behind this badboy.

Installing the mouse was quick and easy and I definitely appreciated the aesthetic appeal of having it glow whatever colour I wanted it to. The default colour is a bright orange but I quickly changed it to purple (and then later on that week to pink). The glow speed can also be adjusted, so there’s lots of customization to be had with this mouse. In fact, the specifications boast sixteen million whopping colours to choose from! Though I prefer having a wireless mouse, most people playing a PC game seriously will appreciate the cord material. It won’t bunch up or bind like crazy – something that has always bothered me with wired mice.

On the configuration screen there is a way that you can upload your character’s profile but unfortunately it is still not working as of yet so I’m not sure what kinds of benefits it gives. While this function is not going to affect your enjoyment of the mouse, it is still a shame to see a feature missing. I have been using this mouse for over a month now and while I am used to the size, I’m still not used to some of the buttons. If you’re a hardcore World of Warcraft player and want a mouse that has as much aesthetic appeal as it does function, the SteelSeries World of Warcraft: Cataclysm MMO Mouse may be just the thing you’re looking for. The mouse can be purchased directly from the SteelSeries shop page for $99.99.

Not wireless, huh? I feel like I’d appreciate it more that way rather than corded, haha.

I’m pretty interested in trying one of these gaming mice. I’ve never had one, so it’d be pretty cool to try it out– maybe it would even be worth the hundred bucks.
