Earlier this month, Disney teased us with a trailer (that we wrote about here). Well, earlier today they put on a little bit of a presentation to talk about Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition). The presentation, hosted by Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson from Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and various Marvel film properties), and had various representatives from Disney Interactive, Avalanche Software and Marvel Entertainment. The hour-long presentation detailed what Avalanche had been up to since the launch of Disney Infinity and demonstrated that many of the changes and improvements to the Infinity franchise are fan-driven.

So what are the changes? Well, for starters, a number of recognizable heroes are joining the fray, such as: Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor and Hulk. All told, there will be more than 20 new interactive figures from across the Marvel Universe, along with new, original storylines to sink your teeth into. Game-play has been re-engineered to include things like skill trees and the ability to bring all of the Infinity characters up to level 20. Some Marvel super heroes will be able to move between different play sets, and Toy Box mode has been completely redesigned to include more structure, and the ability to more easily create custom content (either on your own or with the aid of “helpers”).

The game engine has been modified to allow for environments that are four times the size of largest current Infinity area. More buildings, more vehicles, new unique character animations and a lot more await the player in this next edition of the best-selling game. Infinity 2.0 Edition will release in August with a new starter pack, consisting of three different Marvel heroes (Iron Man, Thor and Black Widow), a Marvel Universe Play Set piece and some booster discs (along with the 2.0 version of the game and base, and a web code card). Thankfully, Disney Infinity 2.0 is backwards compatible, and the original Disney Infinity base is forwards compatible, meaning that you will just need to grab yourself a copy of the game. Also, Disney Infinity 2.0 will have both Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions.

I don’t know about you, but this is a pretty impressive move by Disney. Not only have they improved the whole game, but Brian Michael Bendis is the one behind the Marvel story lines, which is pretty rad. Also, during the presentation they tipped their cap to one of the designers from the community – who impressed them so much that he is now working for them. Seriously, Smallest Thumbs and are pretty happy with Disney Infinity the way it currently is. This new update has us totally stoked. August can’t come soon enough.
