Football Manager 2015 Announced

By Rituro - August 11th, 2014

Finally, at long last, Sports Interactive has graced the world with precious, precious dates regarding Football Manager 2015. Now, I know that might seem like a bit of an overstatement considering that a yearly FM game is about as guaranteed as the yearly iterations of Madden, FIFA or Call of Duty. We know a new game is coming, people might say, so what all the hype? To those people, I say, “Shut your pie holes, you insolent whelps! They’re talking about Football Manager!”

For the uninitiated, Football Manager is a long-running game series that puts you in charge of a soccer club from nearly anywhere in the world. Whether you’re managing some scrub team at the bottom of the Slovenian second division or the English national team, you call the shots (player acquisition, training schedules, match tactics and so forth) – but, come match time, you have no direct control over the players. You can shout at them to push up, take a breather, clear the ball to flanks or whatever you think will be helpful, but it’s up to the AI to determine if your tactics, adjustments and just plain ol’ luck will win the day. It’s a series so precise as to be addictive, with just enough random chance to be maddening when you lose a cup final thanks to a single goaltending blunder.

(Not that I’m bitter or anything.)

So with all that said, you can understand why legions of fans would be eagerly awaiting the latest iteration of FM, chock full of updates to not just the game itself but the player database – a humongous vault of data on real-life players collected by Sports Interactive’s own scouts1. As of this week, we now have a date for FM15: November 2014. Sports Interactive has also promised a drip-feed of information about the new features starting in October which will no doubt have the effect of satiating fans just long enough to get them hyped up and more impatient than before.

Sports Interactive is also offering a pre-order deal with the carrot of beta access two weeks prior to the official launch. If that’s still not enough, you can sign up for their new loyalty program, inSIder, and get a pre-order discount coupon.

1 – Yes, they have their own scouting team. That’s how serious this game is.
