Positive Thoughts For Mike

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - July 12th, 2010

We believe that personal hardships are a heavy load that are best shared with family and friends; here at Thumbs, we are definitely a family of sorts, and we look out for our own.

Our hearts go out to Mike Croft (one of the writers here on Thumbs) whose mom passed away last Friday.

Oh Canada!
Our Thumb and Native Land

By Jorge Figueiredo - July 1st, 2010

Canada

Happy Canada Day to all of our fellow Canadians and even our non-Canadian readers! On this day, back in 1867, we became a country. Now look at us! We should all hold our heads high and be proud! We have amazing artists, scientists, and have contributed in a meaningful way to the world as we know it.

If you need even more reasons to be proud of yourselves, just think of all of the awesome Canadian talent we have in the gaming/development sector!

Event
SerenityNow EqualityNow

By Jorge Figueiredo - June 13th, 2010

Enow

There is a great event being held at the Bloor Cinema on June 26: Can’t Stop The Serenity (CSTS) is renting the Bloor that day for a showing of Joss Whedon’s Serenity to raise money for Equality Now, a fantastic group working for the protection and promotion of the human rights of women all around the world.

After the movie, an auction will be held for some really great items, one of which is an XBox 360 with Halo3 signed by Alan Tudyk and Adam Baldwin (two of the voice actors), both of whom are also in Serenity.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m.; photos of the auction items will be shown on the big screen in the hour before the movie starts. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Check out Toronto Serenity for more details about the event »

How Are We Doing?
Housekeeping

By Jorge Figueiredo - May 5th, 2010

Housekeeping

So it has been a little while now, and I have noticed that the comments have all but disappeared, even though readership seems to be actually increasing. I am interested to know how we are doing as a site; what is working; what we can do better; are there really too few photos of Jackson on here?

Become a Fan of Us on Facebook

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - September 12th, 2009

twitterannouncement.png

Ages ago, we set up a Facebook group for Toronto Thumbs. It was fine, but the fact of the matter is that Facebook groups are really quite useless. Status updates from them don’t show up in your friend feed, so they’re really only good if you want to take the effort to visit the actual page.

Well now we’ve set ourselves up with a Facebook Fan page. Many of you have already joined, but judging from our traffic, there are thousands of you that have not. If you’re on Facebook (and really, who isn’t?) then it’s a pretty easy process. Just visit our Fan page and opt to become a fan. Next, you can start to receive updates in your friend feed from your friends at Toronto Thumbs.

We’re Moving This Week

By Shaun Hatton - April 7th, 2009

We posted about this last month, but now the time has finally come: Toronto Thumbs is moving servers. Our admin team may be starting the move Wednesday, April 8. In the meantime, we’re in a content freeze. The site will still be up – we just won’t update it for about four days till we’ve settled into our new digs. However, we will still be posting our regular Twitter updates and may even post over at 4 Color Rebellion during this time.

We’re Moving Servers

By Shaun Hatton - March 10th, 2009

Hi loyal Toronto Thumbs readers! I just wanted to let you all know that in the next few days (maybe even weeks – who knows!) we will be migrating our site over to a newer, shinier, flashier server. This will hopefully make things a lot faster, as the new server has loads of memory. We don’t know for certain which day this switchover will occur, and it should go smoothly for the most part. One thing I’m expecting to have happen is for some more recent comments to be lost closer to the actual server transition date, but overall that’s a fairly minor setback.

Thanks for reading! We’re hoping for as seamless a transition as possible.
