PILOT PROJECT
Nerdland Has Irresistable Charm

Nerdland Has Irresistable Charm

By the time you read this, Nerdland may no longer be the first video you see on thedetour.ca. But this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t see it. Nerdland is just one of 10 pilot episodes being debuted online by TELETOON Detour on their official site and on tvguide.ca. With a new show debuting each week, chances are if you’re into absurd comedy, you’ll find something you’ll like.

Nerdland, which was filmed in Toronto, is the fourth show released via the Pilot Project and is so far my favourite of the bunch. The episode chronicles the misadventures of a group of lovable nerds who, despite being brought to life in stop-motion, are surprisingly real. Odds are you can identify with at least one of the characters, or know someone who is eerily similar to one of the nerds. It even pokes fun at elitist video game bloggers.

Rabbids Go Home Cartoon Series Premieres

Rabbids Go Home Cartoon Series Premieres

Ubisoft’s Rabbids Go Home five-part cartoon series premiered on YouTube today. The cartoon depicts the Rabbids and their world (and the characters in it) in cute, simplistic two-dimensional form and chronicles the Rabbids’ attempts at returning home after conquering Earth. It’s great to see these characters maintain their visual appeal when rendered in different art styles. The Rabbids have somehow become cuter, more annoying, and more lovable with each appearance since their debut. This video series is no exception.

This isn’t the first time Ubisoft has used original content to promote an upcoming game. Just recently the software giant released the excellent three-part Assassin’s Creed Lineage, a mix of live-action and CG elements, to promote the launch of Assassin’s Creed II.

Rabbids Go Home, meanwhile, was also recently promoted in an excellent marketing stunt with French automaker Renault. In addition to this, the Rabbids are also getting the comic treatment via the brand-new Rabbids Comic Blog, which promises to chronicle two failed Rabbids’ attempts at getting home each week.

COWABUNGA
Turtles Forever Trailer Hits YouTube

Turtles Forever

The trailer for Turtles Forever, a special TV movie most Canadians won’t get to see legally when it debuts on The CW4Kids on Saturday, November 21, 2009, hit YouTube today. The plot of the animated flick involves the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles somehow teaming up with their contemporary counterparts and their original Mirage Comics incarnations as well. On the flipside, it looks like this has multiple versions of The Shredder in it as well.

I’m not going to lie – as a TMNT fan from the early days this special has me very intrigued. Turtles Forever might turn out to be horrendously bad, but I’ll never know until I watch it.
