Giveaway:
Win Cities XL

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - December 1st, 2009

Win Cities XL

Jorge reviewed Cities XL back in November and, as a huge fan of SimCity, liked the game quite a bit.

We’ve been given three copies of Cities XL to give away, with one of them being the Limited Edition, and we’re giving these away to three random Canadians who comment here with the name of a song that has “city” in it by December 12, 2009. So have at it, and remember: if you use a fake email address to comment here, we won’t be able to contact you and therefore you can’t win.

Good luck!

DJ HERO CONTEST
The Winners!

By Shaun Hatton - November 15th, 2009

DJ Hero Demo Kit

Our DJ Hero Demo Kit contest has come to a close. There were some great entries (and some not so great ones – see our first winner, below). Sadly we only had three of these to give away, but in my mind all our entrants are winners because they took the initiative to go out of their way to enter our contest – and that’s cool! Congratulations to our three winners!

CONTEST
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Military Pack

By Shaun Hatton - November 9th, 2009

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Military Pack

When we first reported that we’d be giving away Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Military Packs, we had no idea what these might actually be. We knew they had to be related to the game, and we knew they had to be awesome. But today when we received the drop box pictured above, we were pleasantly surprised to find it jam-packed with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising goodness.

Each military pack consists of one messenger bag with a T-shirt, one map of Skira, one postcard, and one of those trendy metallic drinking bottles that everyone’s using – except this one is way better since it’s branded with the awesome Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising logo. If you want to see more photos of the prize pack, we’ve put them up on Flickr for your ogling pleasure.

If you want one of these packs, we’ll be glad to share them with random people who email torontothumbs@gmail.com with the subject “Get Better At Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising” before November 30, 2009 (note this is an updated contest deadline). This contest is open to residents of Canada and the good ol’ US of A.

CONTEST TEASER
Lantern Power Ring Giveaway Happening Soon

By Shaun Hatton - November 8th, 2009

Lantern Power Ring Giveaway Happening Soon

Following the success of our Black Lantern Power Ring and Blackest Night #1 contest, the good people at Sidekick Comics have once again come through with another killer cross-promotion. This time, we’ll be giving away a complete set of Lantern Power Rings, pictured above. I have seen these rings in person and they’re of solid construction. They even have a nice metallic finish, which you can’t really tell from this cellphone photo that well.

We’re in the process of ironing out some of the details and will kick off the contest once all the prizing has been confirmed. Who knows, we might even have more cool stuff to throw in as prizing.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is an amazing game – but this prize made more amazing by the fact that the Fortune Hunter Edition is limited to 300 units. The contest requires you to solve a series of puzzles in order to be eligible – so hop to it! You have until November 23, 2009 to enter.

DJ HERO CONTEST
Kat is a DJ Hero

By Shaun Hatton - November 5th, 2009

Kat is a DJ Hero

This photo is made of win and is full of amazing geek points. Kat’s busy mixing what appears to be a Jesse “The Body” Ventura album from an Ion turntable to her computer. She also gets bonus points for the Gary Numan, David Bowie, The Beatles, and Prince albums (even if she’s pandering directly to me). Check out that Geordie LaForge character mug! I have one just like it, only it’s a Boba Fett mug. I guess that’s really not quite the same thing, is it?

Kat’s entry also reminds me that girls read this site. This makes me a little nervous.

Have you entered the contest yet? Your face could be right here! Better yet, you might actually win!

DJ HERO CONTEST
DJ Heroes Raj and Anthony!

By Shaun Hatton - October 30th, 2009

DJ Hero Raj

Our DJ Hero contest entries keep coming in, and here are two recent ones that I thought were pretty cool. Up top we have Raj practicing his scratching skills on really tiny turntables – or is he just really huge? Below we have Anthony, an actual real-life DJ, shooting laser beams from his eyes to punish evil-doers. You can’t see the lasers because they’re aimed directly at you. PEW PEW PEW!

OVERVIEW + GIVEAWAY
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

By Shaun Hatton - October 28th, 2009

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising

I’ve been playing Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising for the past few days and, despite spending hours of my life in its world, I’m still only on the second mission. To say the game is difficult would be an understatement. The game is simply kicking my ass, repeatedly. Truth be told, I kind of like it.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising takes place on the island of Skira, which has been a disputed territory since the end of the second World War. The game opens with a stylized, fictionalized montage of the region (the island’s topography is based on the real-life island of Kiska). The montage certainly comes across as credible, and even goes so far as to mention the recent world-wide economic problems before revealing some interesting future history from the next three years.

As tensions between Russia and China flare, a small team of US Marine Corps is put in charge of recapturing the island from the aggressive Chinese military. Doing this is obviously a lot easier said than done, given the fact that I’m somewhat stuck.

DJ HERO CONTEST
DJ Heroes Terence and Mike!

By Shaun Hatton - October 26th, 2009

Terence is a DJ Hero

We’ve been getting entries for our DJ Hero contest on a steady basis now, but today we received the most hilarious ones yet. This is Terence showing off his DJ skills in a fancy kitchen while making a goofy face. Below, we have longtime reader Mike hamming it up, though it doesn’t look like he’s actually DJing.
