The Killing – The Complete First Season Blu-Ray

By Jorge Figueiredo - May 8th, 2012

What do you do when you’re presented with the prospect of watching a dramatic crime series that alienated a good number of its viewers when it ran on television? When this same series is excellently written and acted, the answer becomes intangible, shifting with every episode. My time spent watching the Blu-ray of the popular show, The Killing, has been both enjoyable and frustrating – for more reasons than just the delayed conclusion*.

Bloodforge

By Seán O'Sullivan - May 6th, 2012

bloodforger-1

From the very instant that Bloodforge hands control over to the player, it’s clear that something is amiss. Move the left analogue stick in any direction and the onscreen avatar immediately slides in that direction, snapping into his stodgy run animation. If you so much as breathe on the right analogue stick, the camera jerks wildly in the prompted direction. In a third-person action game like Bloodforge, nailing the player and camera controls is fundamental; but it seems that this is not the only lesson of game design that developers Climax have skipped.

Interview
Lindsay Munro on FITC 2012

By Ricky Lima - May 2nd, 2012

fitc2012-1

Did you attend FITC this past week? Chances are if you’re not in the technology, or creative industries you haven’t even heard of FITC (which is a shame). FITC stands for: “Future. Innovation. Technology. Creativity” and is a conference aimed at inspiring and educating people in the technical and creative fields. In the three days that the conference ran, there were presentations on everything from HTML 5, Arduino’s, and Adobe flash to soft skills talks (staying motivated), and a showcase by Jon Burgerman. I sat down with Lindsay Munro, Manager of Conversation at FITC, to talk about what FITC is and what its goals are.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Blu-Ray

By Jorge Figueiredo - May 2nd, 2012

When you become a parent, you sometimes find yourself doing things that you never thought you would be doing. For instance, before I became a dad I would never have imagined lining up to see Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked in the movie theatre; but I did – and somehow I managed to survive the experience. Of course, that was only the first volley of cliche’s cuteness, as we now own the special edition Blu-ray of said movie*. For those of you who have children that are asking for this item, let me tell you: it’s not that bad if you can nap at will.

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance

By Jorge Figueiredo - May 1st, 2012

I make fun of Mike Jackson for being such a Diablo fanatic*; truth is, I am a bit of a fan of that genre, too. I have voraciously consumed games like Diablo, Torchlight and Dungeon Siege, staying up until the wee hours just to get a unique weapon or to complete an armour set. Those games were fun; but I often wondered when there would be a game of similar quality for a mobile platform. My interest in hack-and-slash eventually waned – until I tried Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter: Alliance for the Playstation Vita; and all was good in the world again.
