System Mechanic

Last year, I tried out a tool from Iolo called System Mechanic that claimed to clean and speed up PCs. I was a little nervous at the prospect of installing it; but, it actually did what it stated, leaving me quite happy at the results. At the time, I was running Windows 7 Ultra; since then, I have installed Windows 8. System Mechanic has kept up (currently version 11.7), leaving my machine running well.

NERO 12 – Platinum Edition

I have been using Ahead’s Nero for quite some time now. What started as a CD burning utility has definitely evolved into an impressive suite of tools. Nero 12 is no exception. It is true that some of the functions of Nero 12 may be redundant with some of the functionality built into Windows 8; but I believe that it is still a great product.

Game Collector

I have been using Collectorz.com’s Movie Collector to keep track of my movie library for years. Versatile and quite user-friendly, Movie Collector takes a lot of guesswork out of tracking my Blu-rays and DVDs, and even has a Loan function to keep tabs on movies that people have borrowed. Collectorz.com recently sent us their Game Collector program to evaluate. While there are other applications available to keep your videogame library in order, none of them are as complete as Game Collector.

Windows 7 is one of my favourite operating systems. It is powerful and offers a number of handy features that increase productivity; it also does a great job of letting me play my games ( efficiently using the hardware that I have). One of the big problems with Windows 7 is registry clutter – a problem that has been around for a while in previous versions of Windows. This issue tends to chip away at the overall efficiency of a Windows-based system, slowing things down and adding to frustration (not to mention contributing to instability).

Wouldn’t it be nice to minimize registry problems and keep your PC in great condition? Well, with Iolo’s System Mechanic you can!
