Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood – The Da Vinci Disappearance DLC

By Jorge Figueiredo - March 24th, 2011

acbdd-1

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was a fantastic continuation of the adventures of Ezio Auditore. Both stunning in production and engrossing in plot, the game brought the master Assassin to Rome, where he worked to overthrow the Borgia clan. Since its release, AC:B players have been given gifts in the form of free DLC. So what makes The Da Vinci Files worthy of the $10 (800 XBL Points) price tag? Let’s take a look under the hood, shall we?

Test Yourself

By Jorge Figueiredo - March 20th, 2011

Have you ever taken one of those IQ tests online? You know the ones I’m talking about: they usually take about fifteen minutes to a half hour to do (some of them take even longer); upon completion, you get to “see” just how smart you are. Taking these tests can be helpful; certainly they can give you a rough idea of your intelligence; but they can also help you understand other things, too (like what cognitive processes can be “improved”). It would be more accurate to call Test Yourself (developed by Creat Studios) an application, rather than a game. While something of an unexpected offering from the creators of Mushroom Wars, I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised as well as mildly frustrated (which isn’t as bad as it sounds).

Tales From Space: About a Blob

By Jorge Figueiredo - February 12th, 2011

A few years ago, at a movie marathon, we watched The Forbidden Planet. That movie was about as campy as a sci-fi piece could possibly be – cheese and bad special effects galore; and yet, there is something appealing about films like that (think: Iron Giant, with its distinct fifties/sixties vibe). The love of creating these experiences is not just isolated to movies; sometimes a developer gives a nod to yesteryear in a very entertaining way. Toronto-based Drinkbox Studios does just that with their PS3-exclusive title: Tales From Space: About a Blob.

Ricochet

By Jorge Figueiredo - January 8th, 2011

Many of us grew up playing games like Breakout and Arkanoid; these sideways-one-sided-pong-type games are easy to pick up and very addictive. Just look at any Blackberry owner riding public transit: I can guarantee that at least half of them are playing Brick Breaker. As with any game type, adding a new game to the fray demands enough creativity to set the game apart from the rest of the pack. How does TikGames’ Ricochet HD on the PSN do in a very specific genre?

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2

By Jorge Figueiredo - November 2nd, 2010

Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm was an incredible game that brought you as close to the popular anime series as you could possibly be; at least, that was the case before the sequel came out. Cyberconnect2 has done more than I could have hoped with the sequel, and created an amazing follow-up to the first title – ans on multiple platforms to boot!

Fashionably Late Review
Mushroom Wars

By Jorge Figueiredo - October 18th, 2010

Subscribing to PlayStation Plus has brought a number of games to my attention; honestly, Mushroom Wars went completely undetected on my gaming radar until I saw it on PS Plus. Missing this game when it came out was a travesty, and I am going to make up for my sin by telling you how awesome it is. Mushroom Wars is simplistic, yet addictive RTS that has to complex tech trees to master; no complicated controls; no dark and serious plots; just a light-hearted romp that happens to involve taking over bases by overwhelming them with mushroom people.

Swords and Soldiers

By Jorge Figueiredo - October 16th, 2010

I was pretty excited when I first heard about Ronimo’s Swords & Soldiers on the Wii, but home networking problems compounded with some busy times caused me to forget about this title. Recently, my memory was jogged when I received an announcement about the game going live on the PSN; my excitement was rekindled, and I downloaded the game to give it a good ruin-through.

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 25th, 2010

Recently we had the chance to chat with our friend Ryan MacLean; Ryan is the CEO and a cofounder of Drinkbox Studios, creators of the game Tales From Space: About a Blob. It sounds like things are coming along nicely, but we figured we’d discuss the game in a small amount of detail; don’t want to give too much away, after all…

ZOMG!!
Patapon 3 Multiplayer Demo

By Jorge Figueiredo - July 8th, 2010

Patapon3

Yesterday I downloaded the multiplayer demo of Patapon 3 from the PSN Store. I played through the intro stage on public transit and I seriously think that people must have thought I was crazy because of the look of sheer glee on my face. I don’t normally buy into a game during an intro stage to a demo; my acceptance comes into the meat of the demo. But man, this game looks like everything Patapon 2 had with even more DON CHAKA!

I will report more on this later…
