Congratulations
Best Wishes, Mike Jackson!

Today our very own Mike Jackson marries his girlfriend Lisa. Mike is a damned awesome guy (both as a friend and as a Toronto Thumb). Lisa is also very cool, making her a perfect match for our hero. I want to personally wish the two of them all the best in their new life together. Some of our current Thumbs (and one former one) have some words for our friend…

Rituro

Congrats, MJ! Remember: games have a multiplayer option for a reason. The couple that plays together, stays together generates a wicked competitive streak that will not end until one of you is standing atop of a pile of victory! Bwahahahahaaaa!!!

…er, congrats!

Dave McLean

Jackson,

May this wedding by waaaaaaaay more successful than your sham marriage to Lisa-Marie Presley.

All the best!

Shaun Hatton

It figures a musically inclined man named Michael Jackson would fall for a woman named Lisa and marry her! May you moonwalk through life together and light up sidewalks wherever your adventures take you.

Best Wishes From the Readers!

If any of you have anything you want to say to Jackson and Lisa, feel free to put them in the comments below!

Oxvylu has outdone himself with a new theme song about…well…my eye! I am thinking that this tune will find its way into our podcasts from this day forward. Hellz yeah!

Thanks Oxvylu! What a great way to end the week!

Science!
A Study In Addiction

This picture really has nothing to do with this article; but it looks cool.

Here at Toronto Thumbs, we pride ourselves on being reasonably logical people. We are always trying to understand the world we live in and this requires the use of Science™! A few weeks ago, TT’s own Mike Jackson encouraged some of us other Thumbs to grab a copy of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from Steam; it was on sale and he thought it would be a fun game to play together. I remember thinking: is this really a good idea?

Toronto Thumbs Performs “Slam”

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - January 4th, 2011

rapcast-1

So, Mike Jackson had this crazy idea about us performing a song* in Def Jam Rapstar and putting it on the internets: this, dear friends, is the final product**. It’s certainly not as horrible as other things that you could possibly find out there; I’m hard pressed to name any of those things right now.

Click here to watch how horrible we are! »

* – Slam by Onyx is our weapon of choice. I figured I would write that here in case you couldn’t tell what it was.
** – For the record, I only really first heard this song when Jackson decided it was the one we were going to do, which was two weeks ago.

Happy Birthday!

By Jorge Figueiredo - October 27th, 2010

Birthday!

Everyone knows that a certain plumber is celebrating his 25th anniversary this year; but really, what the hell has he done for anyone besides helping to elevate gaming to new heights and providing endless hours of entertainment for kids of all ages? Certainly he cannot be as awesome as our own Kirk Jacklin and Filipe Salgado?

Maybe he’s close.

In any case, warm wishes go out to two of our Thumbs! May your Birthdays be full of Happy, and your pockets be full of quarters!

Fancy yourself a smartypants? Have you heard about Play Till Doomsday? No? Well I guess you’re not as clever as you thought. PTD is the blog portion of a transmedia initiative that looks at digital games as culturally significant entities; it explores games, play and culture by combining the ideas of academia with the practical experience of gamers.

The site is maintained by our very smart friend A. Brady Curlew. I highly recommend you click on the link at the end of this blurb and go learn yourself some stuffs!

Positive Thoughts For Mike

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - July 12th, 2010

We believe that personal hardships are a heavy load that are best shared with family and friends; here at Thumbs, we are definitely a family of sorts, and we look out for our own.

Our hearts go out to Mike Croft (one of the writers here on Thumbs) whose mom passed away last Friday.

Ninja Attack

The halls around the office don’t echo with the light-hearted banter that it once did.  When Shaun was picked up by The Electric Playground, a good deal of the wind behind the sails of this site changed; our momentum started to diminish.  Truthfully, Shaun is a dynamic and incredible person with enough work ethic, enthusiasm, and creativity to power a small country.  Perhaps that may not make a lot of sense to some of our newer readers, but to those who know Shaun, it is probably an understatement.

How to Tell You’ve got a TGF:

After a good round of TF2, your TGF and you have a telephone conversation about it.  He remarks that your skills as a Sniper have improved a lot since you last played together.  He tells you that he’s interested in your strategies and would like to know some of your tricks so that he can learn to play the position better.  So you tell him.
