Supremacy MMA

By Jorge Figueiredo - January 21st, 2011

smma-1

Ultimate Fighting (mixed martial arts) is insanely popular these days; among a lot of friends and acquaintances it is one of the most planned activities that I hear about and receive invitations for. It’s not really difficult to see why: like Roman Gladiators, two accomplished fighters meet in a ring to do battle; the difference is that their bodies and knowledge are their weapons.

Toronto Thumbs Performs “Slam”

By Toronto Thumbs Staff - January 4th, 2011

rapcast-1

So, Mike Jackson had this crazy idea about us performing a song* in Def Jam Rapstar and putting it on the internets: this, dear friends, is the final product**. It’s certainly not as horrible as other things that you could possibly find out there; I’m hard pressed to name any of those things right now.

Click here to watch how horrible we are! »

* – Slam by Onyx is our weapon of choice. I figured I would write that here in case you couldn’t tell what it was.
** – For the record, I only really first heard this song when Jackson decided it was the one we were going to do, which was two weeks ago.

DJ Hero 2
Behind the Mixes

Law Abiding Engineer

We at Toronto Thumbs are stoked at the impending release of this game. This trailer does not help make the time go by faster; it makes time slow down to a standstill – but in a good way.

If you thought the mixes in DJ Hero were awesome…

Red vs. Blue – The Blood Gulch Chronicles

By Jorge Figueiredo - July 10th, 2010

rvb1

A number of years ago, a friend introduced me to Red vs. Blue; available on the official website, this series of webisodes followed the adventures of two warring factions in a desolate box canyon named Blood Gulch. Originally intended as a very short series, the creators of RvB were overwhelmed with the positive response generated by their project; a six to eight episode stint turned into five seasons of hilarious goodness in the form of The Blood Gulch Chronicles, which is consequently now available as a six-disc DVD boxed set.

Splinter Cell: Conviction Challenge

By Jorge Figueiredo - April 8th, 2010

ConvictionChallenge

Some video games can sell themselves. You just mention the name of a popular franchise, and people will reach into their wallets and hand you money. Seriously, just wave a piece of paper that says Grand Theft Auto 8 on it and Dave will hand you all of his money, grab that paper, and make sweet, sweet love to it.

Once in a while, though, software companies hold some pretty cool events to promote their games. Read the rest »

OMG
Might and Magic Clash of Heroes

By Mike Croft - March 18th, 2010

Might and Magic Clash of Heroes

Since I do not own a Nintendo DS there are few games for this system with which I am familiar. To catch my attention, the games have to be either very good or very well-hyped. One such game is Might and Magic: Clash Of Heroes. This 2009 release was very well received by both reviewers and players.

So, when Ubisoft announces that this summer will see the release of this game to both XBOX Live Arcade and Playstation Network I need to take note.

NBA Jam Debut Trailer

By Rituro - March 17th, 2010

NBA Jam

Once upon a time, it was the 1990s.

Nirvana was at its peak; the internet was poised to explode; somebody cloned a sheep; Midway, with their arsenal of Mortal Kombat and Rush games, was synonymous with arcade superiority and multiplayer goodness. Quarters were poured into standup cabinets and couches suffered severe wear and tear: all in the name of fatalities and screwing Blue Wizard out of food (no matter how badly he needed it).

Then some stuff happened, Chapter 11 bankruptcy, yadda yadda yadda, and we all moved on…

…or did we?

Sherlock Holmes VS. Jack the Ripper

By Dave McLean - March 16th, 2010

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper

Good Game, Bad Trailer?

I’m not much of a murder-mystery guy, but the idea of Sherlock Holmes facing off against Jack the Ripper has me intrigued. I’ve witnessed tremendous match-ups in my time (Dracula Versus Frankenstein, Godzilla Versus Bambi, and Andre the Giant Versus Hulk Hogan being among the top three), and I briefly thought this game might be a contender for one of those top spots.

Then I watched the trailer for Sherlock Holmes VS. Jack the Ripper.

I think there might be a good game buried under here, but I really can’t tell. Between the muddy soundtrack, the jump cuts, and the wobbly cam, I don’t know what this game is about. Okay, I can imagine what it’s about, but that’s only because of the title. From the trailer, this could just as easily be called Sherlock Holmes Versus Tinnitus. Holmes actually seems completely secondary in this trailer. Maybe it’s Jack the Ripper Versus The Busty Prostitutes?

Or maybe I’m just a jerk and this game is awesome. We can all find out on April 20th. Check out that crazy trailer and let me know what you think.

Sherlock Holmes VS. Jack the Ripper is published by DreamCatcher Games and The Adventure Company for the XBox 360.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands

By Rituro - March 9th, 2010

POP

Let’s say you love Prince of Persia but just can’t stomach any more soft-focused publicity images of Chesty Jake. Good news! Ubisoft has your PoP fix sans Gyllenhaal.

Check out this gameplay trailer (complete with developer commentary) and prepare to be enthralled by the Prince yet again. What’s not to love about parkour mixed with elemental control and lots of baddies?
