Archives – Cosplay

By Jorge Figueiredo - October 31st, 2013

It occurred to me as I was handing out candy tonight to all of the costumed kiddies that I never did post the photos of a lot of the excellent cosplayers from Fan Expo 2013. It seems that every year an increasing number of people put a lot of great work into their costumes – which is a fantastic treat for everyone that attends the expo. I don’t know why I forgot to post these – and I apologize profusely – so I went through my photograph folder on my computer and found them sitting there, looking neglected.

Here they are in all of their glory. From X-Men to Superman, Doctor Who to Sailor Bacon – everything cosplay-related that I took at Fan Expo Canada 2013. Just click on LEGO Superman below, and you can scroll through them. I hope you enjoy!

Nerd Noise Night

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 26th, 2013

2013nnn-2

One month ago tonight, a beacon of hope and awesomeness shone towards the heavens from the Horseshoe Tavern on Queen Street in downtown Toronto. This celebration of music and fun was organized by a few stalwart individuals, but it meant a lot to us Thumbers to have former Editor-in-Cheese Shaun Hatton at the helm a lot of the time. Everything about the evening was awesome. It was a lot to process (both mentally and photographically); but here at Toronto Thumbs, we believe that some events transcend the usual 2 week post deadline.

So let’s go back in time, and remember the goodness that was Nerd Noise Night 2013 through some words and photos.

Steel Archers

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 24th, 2013

Just a few steps down from the Shuyan booth was a booth manned by folks from a small indie shop called Five Archers Corporation. They currently have a game in development for the PC and Mac called Steel Archers, which looked really interesting. A combination of third person action, RPG, and card collection, the game looked like it was coming along nicely.

Dead Rising 3 Preview

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 21st, 2013

fexb1-1

At Fan Expo Canada 2013, some of my fellow media peeps and I were treated by Microsoft to a sit-down game-play preview of Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One. Low, comfortable couches accommodated our rumps for a fair amount of time as we watched the on-screen mayhem and later on during the question and answer period. While I am not normally a zombie-game kinda guy, Dead Rising 3 was pretty impressive, and looks it will be a fun next-gen title to pick up.

BowBlade

We’re almost at the end of our Fan Expo Canada run (only a few more to go, believe it or not). Is it any wonder that we’re still writing about it? There was so much to see and do, and a lot of the things that we saw are things that we need to share. Today’s post is about the share-worthy BowBlade, an interesting innovation in interactive gaming that has some interesting side benefits besides immersion.

Panel: The Actors Behind Blacklist

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 14th, 2013

Click the image to check out some photos from the Blacklist panel.

On the Saturday afternoon of Fan Expo Canada 2013, some of the cast and crew from Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist spoke about their experiences working on the videogame. The panel was moderated by the Space Channel’s Ajay Fry, and features Eric Johnson (Sam Fisher), Kate Drummond (Anna “Grim” Grímsdóttir), David Reale (Charlie Cole) and David Footman (Cinematics Director). It was a great session, full of spirited conversation and interesting anecdotes. Toronto Thumbs was lucky enough to have a front row seat to listen to what these folks had to say.

Ubisoft

By Jorge Figueiredo - September 10th, 2013

Ubisoft’s booth was definitely the largest and one of the most interactive displays on the floor in the South building of Fan Expo Canada this year. Seriously. I think I walked around the booth at least 3 times and I have a funny feeling that I probably still missed something. Lots of gaming stations were available to let people play soon-to-be released games as well as some very recent titles. There was also a Splinter Cell Scion parked in the middle, right around the corner from a store selling a line of Todd McFarlane toys based on characters from the Ubisoft universe.
